Project - Subway Series
NY Poets Society
Hip Hop was born over 45 years ago in the Bronx. Since day one, rap has always debunked the system, but, like many adults rap began spreading its wings, catching its stride, and finding its voice in its twenties. 90’s rap is considered by many to be the Golden Age of Hip Hop. Immensely skilled artists emerged, powerful producers arose, and as a result detailed accounts of the rawness that was the streets of America were chronicled for the world to hear. As uncensored as the music was, so were its messengers. As a result timeless pieces of art were created.
The SUBWAY SERIES: NY POETS SOCIETY, is an ode to the fallen artist from the birthplace of hip hop who created a vibe that would stand the test of time and shape this genre of music into what it is today. Just as these titans propelled rap into another stratosphere, rap guided and gave many of us the blueprint on how to elevate through the phases of our lives.
The common denominator that connected us all was the Subway. On these red, blue, yellow, green, grey, orange, and purple lines we listened to this music. On these red, blue, yellow, green, grey, orange, and purple lines is where we spread our wings. On these red, blue, yellow, green, grey, orange, and purple lines is where we found our voice. The NY POETS SOCIETY was the thread in a quilt that connected us all. Weaving worlds together to create one entity that is NYC.
